LED Lamps

A light-emitting diode (LED), is an electronic light source which is based on the semiconductor diode. LEDs present many advantages over traditional light sources including lower energy consumption, longer lifetime, improved robustness, smaller size and faster switching. When compared for light output for given electricity usage, LED lights are two to three times more efficient than fluorescent lamps and ten times more efficient than incandescent light bulbs. However, they are relatively expensive and require more precise current and heat management for their operation. But, because of their very low power consumption, LED lamps are particularly suited for small solar home lighting systems. By using low-wattage LED lamps it is possible to significantly reduce the size of the solar panel and the battery for these lighting systems. And the savings in the panel and battery costs will more than offset the high price of LED lamps, thus making the lighting package cheaper than the competition.
